About Me
Hello! My name is Amanda Phillips. Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a math teacher. So I knew the moment I graduated high school, exactly what I wanted to do. I chose to go to college at the University of Central Florida. I graduated from UCF with my Bachelor's in Secondary Mathematics Education and a minor in Coaching. While at UCF, I worked in the Math Lab on campus as a tutor for 2 years. I then went on to teach mathematics at Wiregrass Ranch High School in Pasco County for 7 years. I have taught such subjects as: Calculus, Geometry, Algebra I and II, Probability and Statistics, and AP Stats. I am have since completed my Master's in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida. I have also taught college level math at HCC.
I am a teacher through and through. I truly enjoy helping people learn. There is nothing greater for a teacher than watching a light bulb go off in a student who has been struggling to understand a concept. I am a teacher that truly believes people learn in different ways. I want to help people see how they learn best and how that can be applied to both learning mathematics and being successful in their lives. I believe my job as a teacher is not only teaching mathematics, but teaching my students how to be successful, critical thinking, problem solving adults! Math is much bigger than numbers! It is a way of thinking!
